I was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo to Jewish parents who immigrated there from the Island of Rhodes, part of Greece since 1947.I am partly retired from teaching French, Spanish , history and geography in secondary school .For the last nine years, I have been going to Rhodes as a tour guide for the Synagogue of Rhodes, taking mainly tourists wishing to go on the steps of the ancient Sephardic Jewish Community of Rhodes exterminated by the Nazi on the 16 July 1944.In 2007, I went to Rhodes on holiday, and the loss of my people inspired me to write poetry in Judeo-Spanish (Ladino), the language spoken by the Jews of Rhodes from 1522 to 1944, and spoken by both my parents I live in Cape Town, South Africa for the last 44 years.
