Dave Sharma

Dave was elected to the Australian Parliament for the seat of Wentworth, in eastern Sydney, in May 2019 as a candidate of the Liberal Party. Prior to politics, Dave enjoyed an extensive and distinguished career as an Australian diplomat.
Driven by a sense of service, he became an Australian diplomat, working to help achieve peace in PNG and respond to the threat of terrorism in the USA. At age 37, he was appointed Australia’s Ambassador to Israel.
Dave has a proven ability to bring people together, solve problems and get things done.
He understands the importance of a stronger economy. He will support policies that encourage hard work and enterprise, including the 29,000 small businesses in Wentworth.
Dave did his undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge, where he graduated with first class honours in Law. He also has a Master of Arts from Cambridge, and a Master of Arts (International Relations) from Deakin University.
Dave is Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties, and Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Aid Subcommittee.
Dave is married to Rachel, a lawyer, and they are raising their three daughters in Paddington.
