The problem of divine hiddeness has received a lot of attention from philosophers of religion in the last two decades or so. It's related to the problem of evil, but not identical. The problem of evil asks why a good God allows bad things to happen. This problem asks why God makes it so hard for us to believe in him.
In this session, we'll explore the problem and a number of philosophical responses. We'll end the session with an exploration of possible Jewish responses; including the kabbalistic notion of a levush - a garment that both conceals and reveals.
