The Jew is depicted in fascinating ways by the great English writers, and the way in which Jews have been presented both reflects and shapes the attitudes and behaviour of the host culture towards Jews. This session will examine Chaucer, Marlowe and Shakespeare’s portrayal of Jews and consider whether the writers may be regarded as guilty of Judeophobia.
